The outdoors is where i enjoy spending my free time and what i like to photograph. My passion is creating a personal vision of the places i experience. Many of my images capture the north east of England, an area of natural beauty with a strong industrial heritage.

I work exclusively in B&W and pre-visualise my images as such. I believe almost any decent modern camera can produce exceptional results, and it is down to us as photographers to create great images.

I rarely look at the exif data on someone’s image and am only interested in the artistry. I believe upgrading to expensive equipment in the belief that the work will somehow be better is misguided.

I travel light with two lightweight zoom lenses and a carbon fibre tripod. Long exposures are a favourite technique and once i’ve calculated the exposure time, often i’ll just count the seconds in my head. Sometimes it’s not perfect and i’ll take another exposure. Sometimes a slightly underexposed image creates just the mood i want.
